WILLAMETTE VALLEY, Oregon — For five weeks, my system seemed impervious to Montezuma’s malignant assault, while Darren suffered.
But once we got back from Guatemala, Darren was fine (thanks to Cipro), but suddenly my defenses seemed weaker than a sombrero against a lightning strike.
Unfortunately, I forgot to stock up on cheap amoeba pills before we left Guatemala. Now, I’m not in favor of President Obama’s expensive nationalized health care ideas, but it sure would be nice if I could walk through the door of a doctor’s office without getting dinged $100 just to ask for some amoeba pills. Turns out, I can’t.
So I apologize right here for my odiferous breath, but I’m back with the more economical Dr. Ajo (Spanish for garlic). I’m happy to report that it’s working fine.

John,
I just found your blog after reading a comment on mine, only to find that I had heard about you through some mutual friends, Matt and Heidi Bell! Thank YOU for what you have been doing in Guatemala. Hope you found some cipro for a good price. I have felt your pain...
Hey Craig,
Thanks for your note. Yeah, I met Matt and Heidi last year when they came through Sololá to visit the brothers at Viña. Really enjoy reading their blog as well as the Fickers and others there doing medical missions. What interesting, important work. How long will you be there?
John
I'm glad you remembered Matt and Heidi from a few years ago and am impressed that you keep up with so many blogs! I'm here for the long term until the Lord directs me otherwise. My present plans are for the next couple years. Are you going to be back soon, that I might swing by Vina for a visit? We go through Pana quite often with teams from the U.S. God bless your day!
I hope to be back sooner than later, but not sure exactly. In the meantime, you can always give the brothers at Viña a ring to set up a visit. You can contact them through Viña's website. The link is at the right of this blog, below the map of Guatemala.
Blessings! Sorry it took so long to answer you,
John
